Gigantic water mite - Rhyncholimnochares - Female

Size: 4.5mm
This amazing and primitive water mite has newly evolved eyes, an extrusible gnathosoma, and totally aquatic larvae that parasitize elmids.

Photographs were taken with my iPhone held to microscope eyepiece.
