Some kind of camel cricket? - Udeopsylla robusta - female

Some kind of camel cricket? - Udeopsylla robusta - Female
Clearwater, Sedgwick County, Kansas, USA
May 21, 2013
Size: approx 1"
I'm fairly sure this is just a nymph; the adults I have seen are often close to 3" in length. I was sitting here reading when it ran across my bare foot...

Hi there, would you be willin
Hi there, would you be willing to email me a slightly more precise location? I'm working on a husbandry project with this species, and I live in Wichita, but have not seen this species anywhere within Sedgwick County.

Sorry for late response!!
I see these a lot, in fact I just threw out another one this evening (they come inside and my cat plays with them). They are very common here this time of year. Location is in Clearwater, approx 1/2 mi north of the Ninnescah river.

I'm fairly sure this is Udeopsylla robusta
This time of year it is likely an adult or close to it. They don't get to be 3 inches, though they can be around an inch (not counting legs and antennae). Still, they are pretty huge compared to most other species of Camel Crickets.
