Pondhawk? - Miathyria marcella - male

Pondhawk? - Miathyria marcella - Male
Plantation, Fort Lauderdale County, Florida, USA
September 12, 2006
I loved the colors on this one I thought it looked like a pondhawk, but not sure.

Thanks,

Charles

Great image
& great addition to the Guide. Description in Dunkle places this as an old male "Old males have pruinose violet front and top of thorax".
Thanks Paul for the ID. Moved.

Thanks!
Thanks again.. I am learning so much here every time I post!

Charles

Miathyria marcella
This is Miathyria marcella (Greater Hyacinth Glider). The dark band along the base of the hind wing is a good field mark.
