Multicolored Fly - Psila

Multicolored Fly - Psila
Seattle, King County, Washington, USA
September 13, 2006
Size: 3mm?
I caught this fly on a cool day of about 60, perhaps. It had been in the mid 70's the day before and I thought there might be some chilly bugs caught in the cold. This one was on a raspberry plant on the same leaf as a leafhopper. The abdomen was amber and translucent, and also came to a narrow point. If it weren't for the fly head, I would think this was a parasitic wasp of some sort! (Sorry to those of you who live in more extreme climes...us Seattle-ites are spoiled by our lack of extremes. This day was unusual in how much of a temp. drop there was.

Will post a better photo
I found a better close-up that may show the wings better. I do remember that they were iridescent, the abdomen was shaped like a football with one end very pointed. It looked like a wasp with a fly head.

It is clearly not a Bibionid
It is clearly not a Bibionid or an Empid, the best guess is a Chloropidae...

I'd guess - and it's just a guess - march fly
Check this:

also, less likely, dance fly:
