Bombyliidae, Bee flies- ID please - Systoechus candidulus - Male
Skidaway Island, Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, USA
May 26, 2013
This Bombyliidae, Bee fly is feeding upon Heliotropium amplexicaule, Clasping Heliotrope. I believe it may be in the genus Anastoechus (simply from BG review- I have no expertise). ID please?

Sunny, 81 degrees, our sandy 3 1/4 acre Sparrow Field within our inner barrier island.

Joel- thank you for having taken the time to review my submissions and rendered an identification, "Systoechus candidulus". I will follow up with research and study this species.

Please see comment on this post, also last photo

Ron- thanks for your post.
Ron- thanks for your post.

I agree it may be in the genus Anastoechus from Joel Kits observation of your submission, "the wing venation is distinctive, with the r-m crossvein close to the base of the discal cell."

I have reviewed "DrawWing for insects identification" and noted "Anastoechus barbatus" appears to have the same venation. http://www.drawwing.org/insect/anastoechus-barbatus-wing

You're welcome, Fitz.
I didn't want to try to figure it out myself, but figured you would.

Ron- this morning I returned to our Skidaway Island, Savannah, Ga, 3 1/4 acre Sparrow Field, relocated the species and spent 40 minutes photographing one Bombyliidae, Bee Fly. I just completed editing and the wing venation is (appears to me) identical to that of "Anastoechus barbatus" as per Osten Saken documentation. I will submit with identity "Bombyliidae, Anastoechus barbatus- Q, Ident please"

I need to research how to reference my preveious submission, 5/26/2013.

Thanks for your assist. (lets see what the experts say?)

Re: Referencing previous post.
I'd be inclined to use a headline like: "Is this bee fly "Anastoechus barbatus?" Since you have two posts, you could have one at family and the other at species. (With posts in two places, they're more likely to be seen by the experts. Had you just one, I'd put it at family as that's the most likely spot for bee flies.)

Fitz, you could also use the [thumb:xxxx] command to put a thumbnail of each post within the text beginning the other post, saying "see also" or something along those lines. (The xxxx here would be the number of the first photo in the other post.)

See Gary's example of use of the thumbnail:

Hope this makes sense. If it doesn't, let me know either here or by email.
