Caterpillar ID? - Basilodes pepita Gold Moth - Basilodes pepita

I think this is it:
Basilodes pepita

Only one other in the guide, so it's easy to miss (I found it in Wagner(1), p.395)

Looks the same to me...
I didn't drill down far enough when using "Browse" and it's especially difficult to find when there is only one example in the genus.

Thank you Hannah for your help...especially for a knowledge and reference impaired individual such as myself!

It was on Wingstem
Verbena alterniflora which should be further confirmation. Now my problem is correcting everything I have ID'd on Pbase and here as Greenheaded Coneflower...we have tons of it here! Thank you further for the link on the "Info" page. After several years of researching, someone ID'd it as Rudbeckia lanciniata. At least it was in the same family...Aster. :)

Do you have any local parks that do nature hikes?
Park naturalists are great resources for plant ID. The trouble with Internet searches is they lack the local context.

I've moved this one to the guide, thus doubling our images. : )

Not close by...
North Bend State Park is about 30 miles from here. The park maintains the Rails to Trails which passes through the front of our property. Unfortunately they are more focused on biking, running, horsebacking, and such...not nature as I perceive it. They mowed down a huge patch of Joe Pye Weed this summer...my butterfly heaven. :(

You are very fortunate to live in Gainesville!!!

Actually, in Gainesville I get my plant ID from FNPS
- the local native plant society. But the University of Florida is a great resource, too.

You are fortunate...
Resources and a nature lover's dream location. :)

BTW, I found the caterpillar again today. This time on top of a Spicebush leaf...right next to the first location. I will add the image to this one, hope that's okay. I'm almost 100% positive it is the same specimen since it's the first I've seen around here.
