Goldenrod Crab Spider (Misumena vatia) Or not? - Misumenoides formosipes

Goldenrod Crab Spider (Misumena vatia) Or not? - Misumenoides formosipes
My yard, Orange County, North Carolina, USA
September 16, 2006
Size: 3/8 inch
This colorful crab spider was underneath unopened blooms on my Swamp Sunfower. Also in the same locations elsewhere on the plant were 4 assasin bugs. I wondered it it would take an assasin bug or not. I did find a Goldenrod Crabspider today with a Silver-spotted Skipper in the front garden.

Moved
Moved from Spiders.

The ridge through the eyes
is not as evident in this specimen, but we still would say Misumenoides formosipes. Nice image!
