What is it? #3 - Phobetron pithecium

What is it? #3 - Phobetron pithecium
near the Wakulla River, Wakulla County, Florida, USA
September 17, 2006
Size: ca. 1.5cm long x 1cm wide
I found this crazy thing crawling on one of my plumerias this morning. It seemed more like a water/sea creature than an insect, but it was found in a wooded area at least 100m from the nearby river. Could it be a type of catepillar? If anyone knows what it is, please tell me! I will post 3 pics total.

I don't get it
The above comment says "Moved from Hag Moth" but that's where it is now. (seems like it was moved from Hag Moth to Hag Moth, whatever sense that makes)

Yes the automatic comments don't always
make sense. Wish we could delete ones that were confusing. Tried to remember what we did to cause this, but can't. We put them on the genus page by accident and then had to move them to the species page. We're thinking that maybe we were moving them at the same time someone else was, but...??? Sorry for the confusion, but you're right -- at least they are now in the right place!

Two almost simultaneous moves
That is exactly what hapenned to me recently. I moved something from ID request and just as I was clicking "move tagged image" I saw that it was already there, so the automatic comment showed up :-)
