Hairy, fat red beetle - Phyllophaga crenulata

Hairy, fat red beetle - Phyllophaga crenulata
Odenton, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA
May 29, 2013
Size: 17 mm body
Hairy, fat red beetle attracted to UV and visible light. Had a tight-enough grip on the screen door that I worried that I might injure (amputate?) a leg trying to dislodge it to photograph it indoors, and so I photographed it where I found it.

In mediocre visible light from the balcony light, the beetle was medium brown in color with a hint of a reddish tinge only on the legs. Had I not turned on my camera flash, I would not have realized that the beetle was largely red instead. This surprised me!

Phyllophaga crenulata?
Very probably that species; need male genitalia to tell for sure.
