found under vapor light, looks like a Slant-lined Owlet Moth - Macrochilo absorptalis - Hodges #8557 ... reported for this area in Covell's guide to moths, first for Virginia in this guide

Marcia I think this is more likely
M. hypocritalis vs. absorptalis due to the ST line not reaching the apex. See hypocritalis info page for comment on this by JD Roberts.
