Bad picture, but I am just curious as to what these tiny little critters are. They were all over the steps under a house light at night.

Interesting...
Is it native to North America? As a side note, the house I was at had been sprayed with pesticides roughly 1 week before and there were numerous dead insects around. These seemed to be in abundance around the other insects (both dead and alive). Would they be feeding on these dead insects?

It has a holarctic distribution
So it is found all over the northern hemisphere.
Many Collembola are scavengers. So they may feed on dead insects. But most feed on fungi. Or on spores of fungi. Fungi may live on dead insects.
