sorry about the bad call...

nice cantharid but very difficult angle; must see head well + dorsal habitus. please post all you have on this one and keep an eye out for them, take pics of other specimens

Thanks for the correction! I've been fooled by the cantharids before! I've added a second image, a dorsal one. Sadly, the focus is not good but it may be helpful to ID the genus (I hope). ;-)

Dichelotarsus pattoni is exactly where i moved it initially, but then instantly moved back to subfamily because of the dilated tarsi and head shape...

I took 5-6 photos and deleted all but two. Happily, you saw some taxonomic significance in the second (dorsal) image! I'll snoop around for another specimen tomorrow and try and submit a better photograph, touch wood.

well, it's an excitement of a nearctic novice

...but still a genuine one: if i'm right about it, it seems that you've got us a nice northwestern species quite near the eastern limits of its range.
but again, nothing is final here besides the fact that nobody has posted any decent photos of it yet [and i also suspect the photos of the pinned specimen on the page may well belong elsewhere, to put it mildly]
