Smerinthus cerisyi or jamaicensis? - Smerinthus jamaicensis
Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada
June 2, 2013
Noticed this one was more rust coloured than the others I have seen. Any way to tell which it is without seeing the spots on the underwing?

Moved from ID Request.

Twin-spotted Sphinx…
This is a smaller species. Also, in S. cerisyi, the lower portion of the arc at the forewing apex does not return to the outer margin. The range includes Nova Scotia.

See reference here.

Thank you!
Very helpful tip - now I can compare the pics of the moths I took yesterday and today and I see I have both species. That's great - thanks!
