Goldenrod Crab Spider? - Misumenoides formosipes

Goldenrod Crab Spider? - Misumenoides formosipes
Doddridge County, West Virginia, USA
September 16, 2006
ID confirmation please...Misumena vatia? Any idea of it's prey???

Moved from Frass.

ID confirmation received. Thanks!

With the ridge across the face through the eyes
so apparent in this image, we would say Misumenoides formosipes. You can find closeups of the faces of all three genera on the Misumena vatia info page.
What do you think of Cylindromyia for the prey? Images here

I didn't see the ridge at first. Actually, I didn't even see the spider until I downloaded the pictures! Since WV is already represented in the data for this species...please feel free to frass any or all of these images.

As for the prey...I agree it appears to be a Cylindromyia but there is only one image from an Eastern state. Do you feel it would benefit the data to move any of them there?

[OT: Hope you enjoyed your trip to Salem, WV...the town immediately adjacent to ours. :)]
