Yellow & Black Click Beetle - Acmaeodera jocosa

Yellow & Black Click Beetle - Acmaeodera jocosa
Ortega Hwy Candy Store, Riverside County, California, USA
June 5, 2013
San Juan Loop Trail

Eye candy
First, this is not a click beetle, which is in the family Elateridae.

Adults of this species are found on chamise, Adenostoma fasciculatum, which undoubtedly too serves as a larval host. This buprestid is found only in California and Baja California (Norte), but it seems only where chamise grows. It is a true denizen of the chaparral.

Eye candy from the candy store!

Thanks
