Eye candy
First, this is not a click beetle, which is in the family Elateridae.
Adults of this species are found on chamise,
Adenostoma fasciculatum
, which undoubtedly too serves as a larval host. This buprestid is found only in California and Baja California (Norte), but it seems only where chamise grows. It is a true denizen of the chaparral.
Eye candy from the candy store!
