Naked Caterpillar - Eupithecia miserulata

Naked Caterpillar - Eupithecia miserulata
Doddridge County, West Virginia, USA
August 3, 2006
Size: about 10mm
With the chevron markings this looks like a Geometrid...Eupithecia miserulata. I will add an image of it cropped, but I have a dumb question, what are the droppings...frass, eggs, or???

Frass, I'm pretty sure
- it takes on the color of the food the caterpillar has consumed.

As I suspected...
And the caterpillar takes on the colors of the plant too!

Thanks Hannah, I'll move it to the guide page. If I have the ID incorrect, hopefully someone will move it elsewhere.

I think it's a good ID
it certainly fits Wagner's description, which I've just added to the guide page.

Very interesting information
Especially about them adapting to the host food plant colors. I saw that in the other images.

Thanks Hannah...I'm really trying to learn what to look for. :)
