Silver Springs Shores, Ocala, , Marion County, Florida, USA
June 8, 2013
Size: approximately 1.25 inches
Quite skittish...couldn't get closer than about 4 feet. (Thank goodness for zoom!) All black, except for that yellow-orange band at the proximal end of the thorax. Wings with a bluish iridescence to them This individual has been hanging around my vegetable garden for a couple of weeks. Our house is in a predominantly long-leaf pine/turkey oak sandhill habitat.
