True bug
This is the invasive stink bug Megacopta cribraria or common name the Kudzu bug. It does feed on kudzu and soybeans and many other legumes (don't know about lettuce). There is a site with a map showing the current distribution of this stink bug since it arrived in Atlanta in 2009. Kudzubug.com
