Ferdinandea sp.

Hello Cheryl,
This is a species in the syrphid genus Ferdinandea!
There are 5 species in the Nearctic, unfortunately I can't tell you which species it is.
But it is somewhat new, because there is no guide page for this genus yet. I already ID one Ferdinandea, but it is in the general part of Syrphidae pictures.

Sryphid Fly

I tried to look through all the Syrphid flies to see if there were any similar ones, but with a dial-up connection, it just took too long. If anyone can ID this at least to Genus, that would be great.

Not Bee Fly.

My third attempt at posting to these two images! GRRR! Real problems with the site today. This is not a bee fly, but a flower fly (Syrphidae), as evidenced by the wing venation among other characters.
