Watching you - Agymnastus venerabilis - Female
Mineral, Tehama County, California, USA
August 2, 2011
Size: two inches
I wish I could remember what color this fellow's wings were. I was photographing flowers and stumbled across the 'hopper.

adult female, tentatively identified as Agymnastus venerabilis
There is some confusion with these, and they may not all be sorted correctly here yet. There may be an unnamed species involved.

Moved from Grasshoppers, Crickets, Katydids.

Moved for expert attention
Moved from ID Request.

Grasshopper photo...
Metrioptera? I would have thought more on the lines of something like Oedipodinae. I'm almost sure it's in family Acrididae. No, definitely not a Katydid.

I agree, it's definitely an acridid
and Oedipodinae sounds right. "Metrioptera" is just my username around here.

Definitely an acridid...
"Whew"! Glad to hear that! Thought I'd finally "gone around the bend". Will wait for a species ID.

Cheers,

Rich Hayes
