Unknown Damselfly, small wetland sedge meadow area
Franklin Grove, IL, USA -- Ogle County, Illinois, USA

Tried cropping again -- this is as good as it gets! :)

Eastern red damsel?

Western Red Damsel
I now believe this is the Western Red Damsel (Amphiagrion abbreviatum)(the original was posted in 2015, this is 2020, thank you for looking!) However, we have changed our records to reflect the problematic nature of the genus Amphiagrion and will continue to closely follow what Illinois' populations fall into.

Interesting!
I didn't have my books on me, so I was just reading about the potential of those to be either intermediate or western. I'm curious to what further studies on the genus will yield.
