Blue-winged bee/wasp

Blue-winged bee/wasp
Highland Haven, Burnet County, Texas, USA
June 12, 2013
Size: 3/4"
I first thought this was a spider wasp, but then thought otherwise. Many thanks for telling me what this pollen-covered bee/wasp is....Denise K.

Moved from Scolia.

Moving as there isn't enough for me to give a positive ID with just this angle.

I would lean toward S. dubia, however, given the black poststucellum (usually yellow in S. nobilitata) and stronger blue reflections in the wings (usually weaker in S. dubia). There are exceptions to both trends, though. A view of the abdomen would be necessary to confirm that (as well as to discern the subspecies).

Moved from Scoliinae.

Since Austin is out of range of Triscolia by George Waldren's notes, I'd presume Highland Haven is as well since it's just a single county over. I can't see the abdomen to tell which species this is, but the somewhat reddish legs would probably suggest either S. dubia or S. nobilitata.
