Limoniid Crane Fly - Limonia annulata - female

Limoniid Crane Fly - Limonia annulata - Female
Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada
September 21, 2006
Resting on dead stump. Looks a lot like Limonia annulata, though this female has a green abdomen. Don't know if it's identifiable from this angle ... I already had to lean dangerously out from the boardwalk.

Yes, you are
correct named it Limonia annulata . The green abdomen is due to the fact that this female is freshly emerged, the color will disappear once the body hardens. Nice image. - Chen

Cool...
I didn't even know that this female was freshly emerged! I had thought that it was a bit older since there was already a`missing leg. Thanks again for the ID and info Chen :-D Moving image to species page...

Would it be okay to post this image at PA crane flies website? - Chen

Hi Chen,
I'm hoping to take a better picture of this species, but since it's getting late in the year I doubt I'd be able to do that. So yes, you may post my image at PA crane flies (I've been visiting it - it's such an incredible site! :-))
