Caterpillar ID - Macremphytus tarsatus
Knowlton, Mississquoi County, Quebec, Canada
Size: 1.5"
These were found on a Dogwood tree (Cornus alternifolia) in southern Quebec. They seem to eat for a while and then they all curl up to sleep for a while.

Possibly Sawfly larva
Looks similar to http://bugguide.net/node/view/75299 which we figured to be a type of sawfly larva.

I agree
and see also this series, very similar. Knowing this is on alternate-leaved dogwood builds the case for Dogwood Sawfly (perhaps for all of these) I think.

adult photos
Great stuff!

I can't seam to find or see an image of this particular adult though.
