Ocellated Darner with Meadowhawk spp. prey - Boyeria vinosa - male

Ocellated Darner with Meadowhawk spp. prey - Boyeria vinosa - Male
West Greenwich, Kent County, Rhode Island, USA
September 22, 2006
Size: 3"
I photographed this Ocellated Darner today at a spillway below a waterfall. It had just captured and was consuming what may be a Cherry-face Meadowhawk. I would have never captured a photo if it hadn't captured large prey. It had to perch to eat.

Moved from Ocellated Darner.

Why was this moved?
This is a Fawn Darner (Boyeria vinosa). Ocellated completely lacks the dark brown basal patches on the wings, and is not warm brown.
