Prionus Pocularis? - Prionus pocularis

Prionus Pocularis? - Prionus pocularis
Lumberton, Jefferson County, Texas, USA
Size: Roughly 2 and 1/2 inches
Found this beetle about 10:30pm, scurrying around underneath a wheelbarrow. It was moving too quickly to get a good shot outside, so I captured it in a vase and took it inside for a photo op.
I let it go right afterwards, though. Nearby was tall grass and swampy-looking ground, as well as some huge willow trees that block out quite a bit of light during the day.

Re: Prionus
Insane! That picture looks exactly like the bug did in person.
Thanks so much for the identification!

I agree
A female Prionus pocularis. They're supposed to feed in dead pine stumps and logs.
