Sleeping Ant - Camponotus floridanus

Sleeping Ant - Camponotus floridanus
Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida, USA
June 17, 2013
This lone Ant was found hanging upside down, on a dry trig at the forrest edge.
I have seen this in a few species of Bees but this is my first Ant.
Any infomation appreciated.

You might want to return to the site and see if a fungal fruiting body has emerged from behind its head. Ants "sleep" in their nests when healthy.

Thanks V
And thank you James... you have me interested in this possibility and i will make a point to check this ant again for any odd developments :-)
