beetle? - Cyphoderris monstrosa - Female
Pemberton, British Columbia, Canada
June 16, 2013

Moved from Cyphoderris.

a female great grig
In the photo you can just barely make out a small patch of orange on the tergite just aft of the wing buds - this is a stridulatory (sound-producting) apparatus called the Ander's organ found only in Cyphoderris monstrosa. I also just collected several great grigs in Pemberton over the past several evenings (all males and positively id'ed by the subgenital plate).

Moved from ID Request.

neat thing; check out Cyphoderris
