Unknown Caterpillar - Malacosoma californica

Unknown Caterpillar - Malacosoma californica
Penasco, Taos County, New Mexico, USA
July 13, 2006
This one was walking on a rock alongside a river in the mountains around Penasco. While the picture shows a bluish tint to his skin, he is actually all black (the flash on the camera caused the bluish tint), but he is a "shimmery" black and not a matte black.

Moved from Sonoran Tent Caterpillar. Changed our minds - think these are Western and will move them there

Different angle, but
the blue color pattern reminds us of Sonoran Tent Caterpillar (Malacosoma tigris), images at Arizona - (scroll down). See what you think.
