Tapinella maculata Mockford & Gurney 1956 - Tapinella maculata - female

Tapinella maculata Mockford & Gurney 1956 - Tapinella maculata - Female
Palmetto State Park, Gonzales County, Texas, USA
June 20, 2013
Size: 1.7 mm
Caught this macropterous female on dead leaves of Sabal minor. Fits the description in Mockford's book (1). I have asked him for verification. Note that the wings are held flat over the abdomen, not roof-like as in Psochomorpha specimens. Heard back from ELM "Well, I guess that's how the macropterous T. maculata look at the north end of their range. I have never seen maculata with such striking head markings."
