Didea fuscipes ? - Didea fuscipes - Male Female
Midgic, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada
June 23, 2013
Size: est. 14mm
Pair on shrubs along trail through wet mixed forest. Seem to key out readily to Didea fuscipes using Ontario Syrphidae guide. Very surprised to see these large syrphids for the first time today, along a trail that I've walked many times in recent weeks looking for syrphids. The male's wings are pretty worn. Note that his head is rotated a bit in this photo. He did this frequently while I was watching and I have a photo where his head is rotated almost 180-degrees! Male eventually flew off and left the female by herself. I'll also include a photo of her alone.
