a Sitticus pubescens. It could be dark but not black.

Moved from ID Request. I suspect that your jumper is one of the large black ones found in the genus Phidippus. Look there in the guide while you wait for an expert. You're probably frustrated that you didn't get the picture your eyes were seeing. I've been there; keep looking and snapping pictures.
