Adult female - Callobius severus - female

Adult female - Callobius severus - Female
Cowichan Valley, British Columbia, Canada
June 25, 2013
Size: ~22mm body length
Found on the deck. What a giant! The largest C. severus I've seen yet, gravid I'm sure. As numerous as these are here, I still get a little shock every time I see one. Their red carapace and legs are so striking.

She was extremely calm and cooperative. She didn't even protest when I tried nudging hairs out of the way for the epigynum shot (see that photo for some details on the technique).

i like these spiders
they are just plain cool looking. when they get in your sock and bite you, it feels like a blackberry jabbed you. but no hard feelings.

Wow a beauty for sure!
