Tussock Moth - Orgyia magna - male

Tussock Moth - Orgyia magna - Male
Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park, Orange County, California, USA
May 4, 2013
Looking at photographs of the various species online, the pattern seems closest to Orgyia magna (but darker).

Seen while black-lighting at the oak in the parking lot below the nature center.

Moved from Moths.

8310 - Orgyia magna
This is a good match of the dark specimen shown in the MONA fascicle. All others examples are of the much lighter and more reddish variations seen in Mark Dreiling's photographs. (no rsvp, thanks)
