Black Vine Weevil? -
Otiorhynchus meridionalis

Size: 1cm
I believe this is Black Vine Weevil (Otiorhynchus Sulcatus); but my ID needs confirmation. Not sure if male or female.

Genus is correct; not familiar with all the species though. Vasilli may ID it when he gets back; they are all from his neck of the woods so he knows the fauna better :)
BTW are these two images of the same individual? The critter in the second image looks more maculate. If they are different pleae 'unlink' them. The color on the second one, BTW, does look more like O. sulcatus to me!

Black Vine Weevil? - Otiorhynchus
Many thanks for the ID and comments! The two images are indeed of the same individual. The difference in their appearance is an artifact of the lighting (single flash unit). You'll notice that the position of the shadow cast vis-a-vis the individual is different in the two images.
