giant lacewing - Platystoechotes lineatus
Davis Camp, Sequoia National Foresst, Kern County, California, USA
May 30, 2013
Kip Will found this while looking for carabids one night on the Essig Museum field trip. It was emerging from its pupa, in the opening of a hole in the ground, I believe. This photo was taken the next day. Two days later I found one on a bag in my car. The bag had been on the ground 2 hours earlier at the Davis Camp, and I'm guessing it was on the bag when I packed it in the car but I didn't see it right away.

Apparently during the next couple of days after that, other people on the trip found 2-3 more of these at the Davis Camp. (I had left by then.) There was quite an emergence of these in late May / early June at the Davis Camp!
