Belaphotroctes sp. - Belaphotroctes undescribed - Female
San Marcos, Hays County, Texas, USA
June 28, 2013
Size: 1.7 mm
Went out this morning dejected about the hot, dry weather (will be 105 today). I swept some low native grasses and caught a tiny creature that I assumed was a very small winged ant. Didn't look like a psocid. I photographed it then viewed it in alcohol. Wow! Batman... what a find. I'm rather certain of the genus due to the very wide Mx4 and other features. I will probably have to send this one to Mockford to get it to species. Wish I could have gotten better shots of this marcopterous female but she's just too small for that given my skill and equipment.

Moved
Moved from Belaphotroctes.

Just heard back from the Wizard of Normal
and Dr. Mockford has dissected this specimen and determined that it is a 'new" species. I must find more including some males. This one may be an ant mimic.
