...and I'm convinced the eyes are holoptic, thus a male here.

Also, zooming in on the full-size image, it looks to me like the first antennal segment is significantly longer than the second...which would rule out G. aequalis.

So if, there are only two species in CA, that would leave G. hybus. But I don't find striking agreement between the photos and the description of hybus.

Perhaps the subgenus is undercollected and there are more than two CA species, and/or Painter's treatment doesn't adequately account for variation? As you can probably tell, I'm just exploring here...not getting enough concordance for anything near a confident ID.

 
FYI, Aaron, I've been posting more of this genus.
I still have maybe a half dozen specimens to go.
