In Juniper Scrub Habitat

Saw this butterfly in the back garden. I believe it to be a Juniper Hairstreak. Thanks for any information you can provide. George

Yes, it is a Juniper Hairstreak,
part of the Callophrys (Mitoura) gryneus complex.

However, at the moment different authors are shuffling populations between subspecies in different ways (also, some authors call some of them distinct "species", others do not); so, the name is up in the air. Right now the ones on BugGiude are arranged as they are on the Butterflies of America website (or at least approximately), but that is liable to shift around.

Moved from Butterflies (excluding skippers).
