Hodges #8352 - Yellowish Zanclognatha Moth? - Zanclognatha
Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida, USA
June 30, 2013
Size: forewing ~12mm
At outdoor light. Like many Zanclognatha, this one is a problem. I considered the combination of a yellow ST line and an almost smooth AM line but could not find it among the species I looked at. Focusing on the yellow ST line without any dark border, I arrived at Z. marcidilinea - the Yellowish Zanclognatha Moth (my specimen really is not yellowish, but neither are all the moths of the posted images).
Edit: I have replaced the initially submitted photo with what appears to be a less underexposed one (my apologies).

Moved from Zanclognatha.

This is Zanclognatha cruralis or obscuripennis. The two cannot presently be separated by photos. Z. marcidilinea has a more scalloped am. line.

Matter resolved, sort of
Thank you, Steve, for finding a compromise by creating a Z. cruralis or obscuripennis category. Actually, I was somewhat surprised by Ken commenting on the problem with these two species here while leaving his image as posted. I assume eventually all Z. cruralis and Z obscuripennis images on their respective BG pages will be moved to the Z. cruralis or Z. obscuripennis page that already exiists but is still empty (the links on the MPG pages would then have to be redirected, I suppose).

Workin' on it
I intend to clean it all up. Hope I'm getting it right.
