Bombus - Bombus mixtus

Bombus - Bombus mixtus
Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, USA
July 1, 2013
If this is mixtus it is a lot more golden looking than earlier in the season, but maybe it's somebody else.

On Solidago elongata.

I think it's a mixtus male
earlier you were likely seeing queens and workers

Thanks for the comment and thoughts. That makes some sense as mixuts is super common at my place and it's true the workers have all but disappeared over the past few weeks. Fascinating it's super golden compared to the workers and queens.

Mixtus, melanophygus, and vos. are the most common here. I am trying to take better phenological notes for those species I do recognize. They get better every season but the trouble is this task coincides with peak seed, fruit, and vegetable production as well as with a peak in my paid job, sigh. (Wanting to capture phenological details is why I sometimes post the same species repeatedly (maddening, I am sure) but I am trying to see if I can truly id that species, so I can then track it:-)
