Carolina Mantis - Stagmomantis carolina - female

Carolina Mantis - Stagmomantis carolina - Female
Snowhill Road at Cabin Branch Creek, Durham, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
October 10, 2004
This individual was clinging vertically to the brick wall outside of the entrance to a building, near a well-lit alcove, so perhaps it was attracted to lights, or other insects in this area. It was still in the area, though rather paralyzed by cooler weather, on October 15. I've seen several of these in the past week, mostly the green form, and one brown form. Presumably a female, with the rounded abdomen.

Same thing happend to me with one of these in California Halloween 2006. Im walking into the courtyard at home and something fell with a huge leaf right in front of me, Fortunately I looked before I stepped and saw her. I kept her for quite a while and she laid me 3 ooths. They just started hatching this May!
