Sap Beetle -
Lobiopa insularis
Henryetta, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma, USA
September 28, 2006
Size: aprox. 10mm
Found under a rotting apple.
I think it is a carrion beetle but I could not find a matching image in the Guide.

Let's see if Andy Cline can give it a name.

Sap Beetle
I sent the image to Rick Grantham at OSU and He said that it matched their only sample of Lobiopa insularis in their collection, which was collected in Texas.
Shall I wait for Andy Cline before I move it?

No, moved it :-)
I see I was wrong about it being a new species for us. They must have variable markings.

insularis links
a quick image web search turned up this photo of (a very faded) L. insularis
http://creatures.ifas.ufl.edu/field/corn/sap_beetle-15.jpg
but I prefer this color illustration, which seems to match your Nit very well.
http://www2.msstate.edu/~macbug1/Images/insect%20pictures/Lobiopa.web.large.jpg
proves just how much better the live (or recently live) photos on BugGuide show the true colors of these magnificent creatures!

Opinions on another possible Lobiopa?
I have a photo of what I think might be a
Lobiopa
, but have little experience with this group. I thought one of the contributors to this thread might have an idea:
Thanks for any help!

Looks like a Nitidulidae Sap
Looks like a Nitidulidae Sap Beetle, but that's as far as I can take it.

Nitidulidae
Thanks Dennis, that is it.
Looks somewhat like Lobiopa undulata but not an exact match.
