Moved
Moved from Ladybird Beetles.

This specimen was identified by Natalia Vandenberg at the Systematic Entomology Lab in Beltsville, Maryland.

Scymnobius sordidus (Horn) has two synonyms. Gordon calls is Nephus sordidus, and Hatch calls it Scymnus intrusoides.

Why Nephus
Can someone tell me why this was moved from Scymnobius? This is the name used by the expert from Beltsville. Has there been a recent revision that put it back in Nephus?

Scymnobius
Is currently a subgenus of Nephus, along with Turboscymnus, Sidis and Depressoscymnus.

Looks like a match to me,
but I'm no expert. Would you like to make that url an active link? If so, just repeat it in front of itself, preceded by url=, inside lower case brackets. Then immediately after the original, non-bracketed url, put /url inside another set of brackets. If you do it correctly, everything inside the brackets will disappear, leaving just an active, underlined link like this:

didn't work
I think I did what you said, but see below, it didn't work. What did I miss?

Thanks

url, not ulr. Try removing those quote marks as well.

I'm guessing Scymnus
It looks a lot like Scymnus abietus from Europe.

Not Scirtidae
The antennae are short. This is not a Scirtidae.

I was surprised when I reared this out. The larvae looks similar to Scymnus or a small version of Cryptolaemus.

This specimen keys out to Scymnini or Coccidulini, in Hatch.

Do you have any larva photos?
Coccinelid larvae are often more distinctive than the adults.

I spent about an hour this morning trying to find an identified image that looks like this. No luck.

There are not so many coccinelids that it would be unreasonable to find a comprehensive photo database on them, don't you think?

Scirtidae ?
I don't think that it is a Coccinelidae. It mostly look like a Scirtidae to me, but it's hard to say without seeing the antennae..
