Latrodectus variolus - Northern Black Widow
I also think this might be Latrodectus variolus - Northern Black Widow. We should get widowman's opinion. I'll email him.

widow
not an expert, but maybe it is a Northern Black Widow?

Maybe
Being that this was found in Louisiana it is probably Latrodectus mactans, Southern Black Widow. Were you able to see the hourglass on the spider? If the hourglass was broken then it is possibly a L. variolus. If not broken then probably an L. mactans.

are you referring to the unde
are you referring to the underside? I have so many of these I could go back and verify for myself before I clean it up.

Yes
The hourglass shape will be on the underside of the spider. The bottom of a Southern Black Widow will look like this.
