Mating damage to male Buckell's grig - Cyphoderris buckelli - Male

Dorsal view of the hind wings of a male C. buckelli (head is to the left). The male's fore wings are being drawn out of the way to show that this male has had his hind wings chewed by a female - meaning that he has very probably mated. All three Cyphoderris species show this mating behaviour (see Morris. 1979. Mating systems, paternal investment and aggressive behavior of acoustic Orthoptera. Fla Entomol 62:9-17).
