Sphinx Moth ? - Eumorpha achemon
Fairfield Ca 94534, Mid state, 50 miles NE of San Francisco entering outskirts of Sacramento Valley County, California, USA
July 11, 2013
Size: Wind span approx 3. in
First sighting of this moth in the 14 years living in the foothills area. A wonderfully colored and designed moth which lit into the tree late afternoon 2 days ago and remains on same leaf. I think it is a Pandora Sphinx- Eumorpha ( google image ). Is this correct. There appears to be little data supporting Western States occupation. Is this generally an east and south coast moth ? Any contribution to this subject is appreciated. Thank you.
