Green Midge, Tanytarsus? - Axarus - female

Green Midge, Tanytarsus? - Axarus - Female
Durham County, North Carolina, USA
May 18, 2004
Found on a lighted wall. This might be a green midge, genus Tanytarsus, see Milne, p. 646, fig. 379 (1)

Narrow antennae and plump abdomen indicate this is a female.

A similar midge from New Hampshire:

ID
Axarus female, same genus as the linked picture. The black stripe on the thorax is distinctive. I'm assuming size is over 5mm.

size this midge/thanks
I remember it was fairly large for a midge--more than 5 mm sounds correct--somewhere between 5 and 10 mm body length sounds about right from my vague recollections.

Thanks for the correction on this ID.
