A_Praying_Mantis_II? - Stagmomantis - Female
Temple City, Los Angeles County, California, USA
Size: 2"
Pictured in my yard while it was meticulously crossing a gap on top of a wooden gate, with a hand-held camera (SONY DSC-H9) under natural sunlight. It looks like it is about to attack something, but that is not the case. It uses its forearms (very powerful with crushing strength and sharp gauntlets) to balance its body while it moves its four rear-legs across the gap.

Stagmomantis
This is an adult female Stagmomantis; it looks like S. californica.
