Strymon melinus?
Definitely consistent with Stymon melinus - Gray Hairstreak.
I've been working with these all year in New England and have experience with them in all instars, patterns, and coloration. However, I'm unsure whether similar species co-occur with them or replace them in the southcentral and western US, so I'm hesitant to ID caterpillars to species level for these areas. Can anyone out there fill me in on alternative flower/fruit eating hairstreaks in the south and west?

What's the plant?
We don't recognize it, but knowing the plant might help with the ID.

Plant
Frostweed Verbesina virginica.
